About Us

Improving lives one bag at a time

Despite being rich in natural resources, environmental treasures, and unique cultural heritage, Madagascar currently has the second lowest median income in the world. Vita Gasy allows Malagasy artisans to raise their incomes by selling traditional products in the United States through a cooperative model. In doing so, they are improving the lives of their families while sharing chic Gasy fashion with the western world.

Our Story

Vita Gasy was born out of the conviction that Malagasy raffia weavers deserve the right to live and raise their children in safe, healthy, and comfortable environments. The skilled artisans of Vita Gasy spend hours each week painstakingly weaving bags, wallets, hats, and mats by hand. However, most of their products sell for the equivalent of a few dollars in Madagascar, providing an income that is often too low to pay for running water, electricity, nutritious food, healthcare, and quality education for their children.

By exporting their products to the United States, the women of Vita Gasy have made the decision to improve their economic prospects and those of their families while sharing their quality handicrafts with the wider world.

Vita Gasy works as a cooperative model, with 80% of all profits returning directly to the artisans. The remaining 20% is used for business development and payment for support staff.

Purchasing Vita Gasy products allows you to take a stand against extreme poverty while upgrading your wardrobe with beautiful, well-made accessories.

As we say in Madagascar, maztoa (enjoy)!
